Bereavement and Learning Disabilities

All bereavements are difficult, but for those with little or no spoken communication, a loss can illicit a trauma response without the right support.

Unique Connections have collaborated with two of the UK’s leading experts in learning disabilities and bereavement to develop a unique package of support. We are confident it will bring you and your team clarity and practical solutions, so they can have renewed confidence in the support they are offering the individual.

We provide the evidence-based training for your team, including workshops and reflective practice, so that bereaved students can grieve well, addressing or preventing further complex grief and associated challenging behaviours.

As self-injury specialists, we have developed this package of support as, for a person with little or no spoken communication who is grieving, the risk of self-injury will increase if they are not well supported through the grief process.

Details: Bereavement support package

  1. Thirty minute free consultation

  2. Analysis of presenting concerns using bespoke tools.

  3. Core training in bereavement for a large group of staff.

  4. Workshop for a small team who will be supporting the individual who is bereaved.

  5. Online reflective practice for the smaller team (for 3-6 months).

  6. Regular check-in with senior management team to review progress.

Research indicates that training alone can not provide the team with the means of offering effective support. We strongly recommend that organisations adopt the whole package.

(Full details will be agreed with the organisation)

Our goal is to stay on the journey until meaningful change occurs
